OUR RESIDENCE UXCO Student IN TOURS

Tours, a student town classified as a City of Art and History!

Tours is a large town in the Loire Valley with a population of around 350,000. With an exceptional history, this city nicknamed "Little Paris" is also known for its vibrancy, its appeal and its student sector, which attracts around 30,000 students every year.

LIFE IN TOURS

The capital of France in Gallo-Roman times, Tours is the perfect marriage of tradition and modernity. On the UNESCO World Heritage List, the "City of Art and History" is appreciated for its dynamism, lifestyle, gardens and monuments and many higher education institutions.

Tours is also a cultural destination of national importance and regularly draws top performers to its venues, such as the Grand Théâtre with its magnificent Italian-inspired architecture, the National Drama Centre, the Olivier Debré Contemporary Creation Centre, the National Choreography Centre and the Museum of Fine Arts (Musée des Beaux-Arts). For food-lovers, this city is classified as an "International City of Gastronomy" and has been working for several years to protect and promote culinary culture. So, you could not contemplate leaving Tours before tasting its traditional Fouaces, round brioche buns deliciously flavoured with honey and nuts, its "melting" rillettes (rillettes fondantes) its nougat, and many other delights. There is not a shadow of a doubt: Tours is a straight-A student!

STUDENT LIFE IN TOURS

Top of the rankings for the most vibrant city centres in France, the capital of the département of Indre-et-Loire attracts around 30,000 students, taking a very broad range of courses in its various higher education centres.

Nicknamed "Little Paris" by tourists, Tours has many student facilities: the biggest university in the Centre-Val de Loire region, hosting more than 20,000 students and offering 35 different first degrees and 90 master's courses, an extensive public transport network (the FilBleu student pass costs €27.60 per month), sports facilities and a programme of cultural events that enlivens the city all year round.
For €8, students can buy a "cultural passport" from the University of Tours that entitles them to discounted ticket prices for many events.
And there is no chance of boredom on the leisure front: on top of the classic outings to the cinema, the bowling alley or theatre, you could visit the Cathédrale Saint-Gatien, the historic centre with the medieval architecture of its buildings, go for a walk or bike ride along the banks of the river Loire, go jogging in the Botanical Gardens or Jardin des Prébendes, go and explore Ile Simon island, or perhaps go out with friends to Place Plumereau, the city's student stomping ground par excellence!

There are no two ways about it, Tours is a great place to be a student!

What else is there around Tours? The Centre-Val de Loire region of France has a large number of activities on offer: you could visit the iconic châteaux of the Loire (Amboise, Azay-le-Rideau, Chambord, and so many more), kayak in the valley of the river Cher, visit the Maison de la Magie Houdini museum, spend time at the fabulous Beauval Zoo Park, or take a trip to Orléans to explore its architecture and vibrant city centre.

Welcome to Tours!
