Founded in 1816 (yep, it’s been around a while), Mines Saint-Étienne is one of France’s top engineering schools. It’s part of the Institut Mines-Télécom, so in terms of reputation, rankings, and career opportunities, it’s seriously impressive.
The school offers several engineering tracks, including:
It also offers many specialized master’s programs across a range of fields (mathematics, mechanics, environment, materials science, industrial engineering, etc.).
As you’d expect from such a top-tier school, admission isn’t a walk in the park! The main entry point is through competitive exams after preparatory classes, especially the Mines-Ponts entrance exam. If you’re in a scientific prep class (MP, PC, PSI…), you’ve got a shot—but be prepared to work hard, the competition is tough. If you have a Bac +2 or Bac +3, there are bridge programs as well.
A degree from Mines Saint-Étienne is a solid passport to success. You’ll be trained to work across sectors like industry, energy, environment, IT, telecoms, electronics, finance, management, and consulting. Some graduates even dive into entrepreneurship or research.
Honestly? It’s great! Mines Saint-Étienne isn’t all work and no play. There’s a vibrant student life with tons of clubs and associations—sports, music, robotics, gaming, entrepreneurship… not to mention all the parties and integration weekends organized by the student union (BDE). There’s always something happening on campus!
