LIFE IN NEVERS

Awarded a broad range of accreditations (Cities and Regions of Art and History, City and Trades of Art, Towns and Villages in Bloom, Free Digital Territory City, and more), Nevers is a pleasant place to live, with historic monuments, good-quality infrastructure and international-standard sporting and cultural events (Magny-Cours motor-racing circuit, sports competitions, Nevers Jazz Festival, literature festivals, etc.). You can follow a blue line painted on the pavement that takes you through all the highlights of the town and its surrounding areas. This former capital of faience has no end of places to visit, restful green spaces and high-quality cultural facilities: Café Charbon, Maison des Montots, the municipal library, the Jean-Jaurès Auditorium, and the Renaissance Municipal Theatre, but most of all, the Greater Nevers House of Culture, or Maison de la Culture de Nevers Agglomération as it is properly known.

STUDENT LIFE IN NEVERS

The town of Nevers has just over 2,000 students attending 12 higher education institutions that offer more than 30 degree programmes. Higher education in Nevers comprises a branch of the Bourgogne Faculty of Law, the School of Management and Commerce and Bourgogne University Teacher Training Nevers site, as well as graduate courses in numerous fields (agriculture, automotive, arts and multimedia, law, education, management, IT, mechanical engineering, physics-maths-science, health, secretarial, and a school of nursing). On the leisure front, Café Charbon is a great concert venue, as is the Auditorium, and you can enjoy exhibitions at PAC des Ouches. Or, you could go canoeing, cycling, traditional Loire boating or go to the Accrobranche high ropes centre. For more traditional activities, there is a cinema, the Magic Boulevard, a golf course, a bowling alley, numerous bars and a shopping centre. A public transport pass for those aged 11-25 costs €178 per year or €17 per month.

What else is there around Nevers? The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region has a host of possibilities for outings: explore the village of Apremont-sur-Allier, go for a walk or bike ride along the banks of the Loire and visit the gardens of the Floral Garden, or discover Charité- sur-Loire with its monastery and alleyways. Alternatively, you could go for a walk or bike ride along the paths that run alongside the river Loire, or go on a boat trip instead. You might also consider getting away to the Regional Natural Park of Morvan, for a real breath of fresh air.
